The Portland trip was a success! I found lots of inspiration and lots of fun. And I discovered I still have lots of learning to do. The most rewarding part of the trip was seeing that a successful gallery can have a foundation based in community and not compromise the integrity of the art or the business.
May and the nice weather have also brought some distractions! Some delightful: canoeing, running, gardening, BBQs, and outdoor backyard movies. Some disgusting: carpenter ant infestation. And some long over-due: kitchen re-model. So it seems my challenge for this month will to be to find balance amidst all these distractions.
My tickets to Portland are purchased and I should be arriving there soon. I got a killer deal on the tickets: two non-strop round-trips for less than $300. Perhaps I should add travel planner to my list of consulting services. ;) I’ll be harvesting all sorts of inspiration and intelligence on this jaunt - and hopefully some new surfing skills too!
Research Research Research! My goal for the next few weeks is to check out and meet with as many art galleries as I can. I need to get a better feeling for the local gallery community and determine if and where I may fit in. I’m also planning to travel to Portland, OR to check out the gallery scene there with the help of a friend.
